Wireless Security Camera
Your wireless security camera can be your average USB webcam but if you want optimum results, you should stick to wireless cameras that are really designed for security and surveillance. Installing wireless security cameras isn’t as complicated as it sounds, as long as you follow the instructions in the manual that comes with the security cameras. Before anything else, you should test the strength of the network connection from the spots where you intend to install the cameras. For this reason, you have to keep a laptop close by while you are installing the camera. Put the laptop near the location where you want your camera to be to check if you have strong wireless connection. Any indication of a weak signal should be a sign for you not put your camera there since you may not be able to stream video properly. If that place is really strategic, you should to consult your internet provider to set up a connection for you on that spot.
You also have to consider the power source of the wireless security camera. You should put it near a power outlet; otherwise, you can connect it to the nearest power outlet with an extension cord. However, visible wires are messy and inconvenient. Wires should be less visible as much as possible. Figure these things out before finally installing the cameras.
Once you do, take the wireless security camera and plug it into a power source that’s also close to your router. Connect your camera through the Ethernet switch or the router’s Ethernet. A set-up wizard will pop up once you’ve connected the camera. It’s important for the computer to be in the same network as the camera during installation. Update all the necessary drivers and install the required software for installation. If you have these things figured out, navigating through the setup wizard will be a piece of cake.
After you’re done with the setup wizard, you should be able to view whatever the camera features. Your installation process does not end here. Most users will not be available all the time to monitor the camera’s activity so you have to configure the motion-tracking features to strengthen the purpose of your wireless security camera. Once the camera detects sudden changes in the viewing range, the system will automatically send images to you through email or FTP. To learn more about these things, check your camera’s web-based configuration interface and desktop software.
As for the type of security cameras, this is up for you to decide. The smallest wireless security cameras are the bullet or lipstick cameras. These cylindrical cameras are housed in weatherproof-casing and are ideal for places that need a discreet and almost invisible camera. They suit indoor and outdoor use. Dome cameras are the bigger cameras that you usually see in commercial establishments. These security cameras are housed in a dark-tinted, dome casing so their orientation is not easily detected. There are weatherproof versions of this type of camera for outdoor use too. The box camera is the biggest one and the most sophisticated. This type is usually found in banks. They are regular-sized since banks don’t need to conceal their security tools. This camera has the widest coverage area and the most flexible configuration. However, it is non-weatherproof so better keep it indoors. Any wireless security camera will keep the home safe as long as the appropriate one is chosen and installed properly.
